North Austin is arguably the “new” center point of metropolitan Austin due to urban sprawl and new residential developments. A 10 to 15 mile drive in any direction from north Austin will put you at city’s borders. With toll roads now completing the MoPac extension around to I-35 and 620/45, commuting has been greatly simplified to and from North Austin. Shopping and entertainment choices are abundant, and proximity to major Austin employers such as IBM, 3M, and Motorola will continue this area’s popularity. Surprisingly enough, there are still attractively priced homes in North Austin — some of which are priced below the Austin median price.

Additional Demographic Data

We recently reviewed the demographic study that was performed by the builders of The Domain commercial center while they were conducting their feasibility studies to determine if North Austin was an appropriate site to build upon. In it, the developers noted that the 8-mile circle surrounding The Domain (located in North Austin) had more upper-income earners that were homeowners and had more disposable income than any other area of Austin.
